Privacy Policy

What we collect, why we collect it, who sees it, and the control you have over it.

Last updated

This policy applies to the Backline website, dashboards, and services.

1. Scope

This Privacy Policy explains how Backline collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you visit our website, request service, apply as a provider, or use the Backline dashboards.

2. Information we collect

Information you provide: business name, locations, contact names, email addresses, phone numbers, service details, equipment information, uploaded documents such as licenses and insurance certificates, and messages you send through the platform.

Payment information: card and bank details are collected and stored by our payment processor, Stripe. Backline stores only limited identifiers such as the last four digits, card brand, and processor customer or account IDs.

Automatically collected information: IP address, device and browser type, pages viewed, and timestamps, collected to operate and secure the platform.

3. How we use information

We use information to create and manage accounts, match service requests with qualified providers, coordinate and document work orders, process payments and provider payouts, provide support, prevent fraud and abuse, meet legal obligations, and improve the platform.

We send transactional messages about your account, requests, work orders, and invoices. Marketing email is optional and can be unsubscribed from at any time.

4. How we share information

With service providers: when a work order is dispatched or claimed, the assigned provider receives the information needed to perform the job, such as the site address, contact, equipment details, and scope. Providers do not receive your payment credentials or unrelated financial data.

With restaurants: providers' business name, trades, coverage, and completion documentation are shared with the restaurant receiving service.

With service partners who operate the platform on our behalf, including hosting, database, email delivery, and payment processing. These partners are bound to use the information only to provide their service to Backline.

For legal reasons: when required by law, to enforce our agreements, or to protect the rights and safety of users and the public.

We do not sell personal information.

5. Data security

Access to data is controlled by role-based permissions and row-level database policies, so accounts can only reach their own records. Data is encrypted in transit. Payment credentials are handled by Stripe and never stored on Backline servers.

No system is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a breach affecting your information, we will notify affected accounts as required by applicable law.

6. Data retention

We retain account, work order, and billing records for as long as your account is active and afterward as needed to meet legal, tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations. When an account is permanently deleted, personal identifiers are removed or anonymized while transaction records required for financial reporting are retained.

7. Your choices and rights

You can review and update most account information directly in your dashboard. You may request a copy of your data, correction of inaccurate data, or deletion of your account by contacting us through the help center.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act, including the right to know what information we hold, to request deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.

8. Cookies

We use cookies and similar browser storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and understand aggregate usage. You can control cookies through your browser, though disabling them may break sign-in and dashboard features.

9. Children

Backline is a business service and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the platform evolves. The date below reflects the most recent revision, and material changes will be communicated through the platform or by email.

11. Contact

Privacy questions and requests can be submitted through the Backline help center or to the contact address listed there.
